The Western Highlands

The western and Eastern Ghates meet at the Nil iris Hills.The highest Peak in the Nil iris is Doddabetta only a port of the western Ghats is in Tamil Nadu State . The Hills that are found in the Ghats are the Nil iris, The Anamalai, The Courtalam Hills,The Mahendragiri Hills,The AgasthiyarHills.

The Anamalai and the Palani Hills meet at anamalai the highest peak in India. These are three passes that connect Tamil nadu and Kerala on the Western Ghats. These are the Palahat the Aralvoi passes.On the Nilgiris Hills we have summer resorts like Ooty , Goonoor and Kothagiri. The Palani Hills are low hills its height between 1500 m and 2000 m. South of the plani Hills are the cardaomon Hills
Thekkadi Sanctuary is near the peruyar lake on these Hills. Kodaikanal hills are the Continuation of the Palani Hills .The Kodaiokanal Hills are known for kurijni flower that Blossoms once in twelve years Dindugal is a summer resort here.
The Courtalam Hills where we have the Courtalam waterfalls , The Mahendragiri Hills and The Agasthiyar Hills are in Tamil Nadu. South of their Hills are the Varshanad hills. The Kamban valley divides the Varshanad Hills and the Andipatti Hills.Between polar and Cavery the coastal plain is backed by a discontinuous leas odd high land made up of small but bold hill masses of which the chief are the Javadhu,Shervaray, Kalragas and Pachamalai
The javadhu Hills rise between 1090 m and 1160 m. The hill resort elagiri is here, the Kalrayan Hill is in the villupuram of tamilnadu .the tributaries of the settlement here in these hills.The servoray Hills are in the Salem Dist. Yercaud is the summer resort on these Hills. The highest peak in these hills is solai kondan. The pachamalais are in the perambalour district.

Chennai ranks as one of the four ‘metros’ of India. ‘metro’ is short for ‘metropolis’ a greek word that means a big city. The other three metors are delhi, Mumbai, and kolkata. Formerly called madras the city was renamed Chennai. In 1996. it is located on the east coast and is a poor city. Ships form many countries of the world come to Chennai harbour.

The English east India company built the fort st george here in 1653. forts are built the fort or a settlement from enemies. In those days the English were at war. With the French. There were attacks on the fort by the French who were based at pondicherry. Finally the English won. The fort here has 6m high walls. There is a museum inside the fort and also the st mary;s church built in 1680. the church is built in a style that is called gothic.

A traveler arriving at Chennai central station will get to see the large brick railway station. The southern railway offices and the general hospital are near by. The ripon building which has the offices of Chennai corporation is another famous the high court building is in mughal style.

The government musem at egmotre has a collection of rare sculptures from chola chera and pandya periods besides the stores sculptures there is a metalware section also it has beautiful bronze and brass statuettes the art gallery here has old and new paintings other buildings here are the egmore railway station and the rajaji hall
Chennai has two fampous temples the kapaleeswarw temple at mylapore and thr parthasarathy temple at tiruvallikeni they have beautiful archietcetural features the palaani andavar temple or at vadapalani

The thousand light mosque in Chennai was built by a nawab of arcat around 1800 the walls of the mosque are decorated with saying from the Koran the triplicane mosque is an older mosque in the city

Among the newer structures is valluvaarkottam Is a memorial built in 1976 in honour of thiruvalluvar verses from thirukkural are written on the walls there is a life size state of thiruvalluvar here

Tamilnadu is famous for its temples. Every city and village has its own temples. The temples at thanjavur, kanchi, madurai, Chidambaram and of Chennai are all famous. The gopurams and temple walls are covered with sculptures and paintings. The famous dynasties that ruled over the tamil country have left behind examples of their art and architecture. These historical monuments and temples attract tourist from all over the world.

Mahabalipuram : one of the most famous places is the mahabalipuram temple built by the pallava kings. The place lies on the coast, south of chenani. There are rock-cut caves, the five rathas and other sculptures and carvings. Only one is left. The tsunami and the uplevel on the coast have disclosed relies of more temples at mahabalipuram.

The brahadeeswar temple built by raja raja chozhan at his capital city thanjavur is famous. It has on the biggest gopurams of all temples. All there chola temples have been given world heritage site status by unesco for their excellence in building architecture and sculpture. They are among the best building in the world. The temple gopuram that you see in the emblem of tamilnadu government. The big round dome or shikhara on top of the gopuram weighs over 81 tons and is made of a single rock. It was dragged up and inclined plane 6.5 km long. The carkings on the inner walls depict 108 bharatanatyam dance poses. There are lots of paintings on the walls too, there is also a large nandi curved out of a single rock.we cannot see the shadow anywhere of gopuram around the temple. this is the miracle of tamil architecture.

Raja raja’s son rajendra chola built a new capital city gangaikondacholapuram in permabalur district. The built a brahadeeswarar temple there raja rajan II built his own new capital at darasuram. The airavateswaram temple there has a mandapam built like a chariot with spoked wheats, drawn by horses. The people who built the sun temple at konark a hundred years later must have got inspiration from darasuram.

Many temples in India have musical pillars. Darasuram has musical steps, on a staircase. Each steps makes a different sound. Many of the beautiful brokes from these there chola are lsot. The few that remain are in the thanjavur museum.

The madurai meenakshi temple is one of the biggest temples. It has four tall gopurams decorated with sculptured figures. It has a hall with a thousand pillars. It you strike the pillars they will produce different notes. The tirumala nayakar mahal or palace is also in madurai.

Kanchipuram was once reputed to have a 1,000 temples. Now about a hundred exist, along with mosques and churches. Kanchi was a famous forhindu, Buddhist and jain scholars. The kamakshhi and varadarajan temples here are famous the sri ranganathan temple at srirangam has seven prakarams or courtyards and has the biggest area of all temples. The rock fort at tiruchi is a well known historical monument. A vigneshwarar temple is at the top of the rock. The natarajar temple at Chidambaram, the oppiliappan temple at kumbakonam, the andal temple at srivilliputhur the lost is endless.

Rameswaram is a small island in the gulf of mannar. It is connected by road to rail to the mainland. It has 22 theerthams in and around the ramalingasamy temple. The temple has a 1000 pillared hall and the longest corrider in the world.

The st. mary’s church at velanganni attracts pilgrims from all over India. Hindus as well as Christians. The dargah at nagore is a famous muslim centre near velanganni. There again people of all religions come to pray.

There are old forts at places like vellore and gingee.

Among the newer monuments is the Vivekananda memorial built in 1970 at kanyakumari. Nearby is a statue of thiruvalluvar about 40m high. It is actually133 fort high. One foot for every one of the 133 chapters of the thirukural. The three oceans or seas the bay of Bengal the Indian ocean and Arabian sea meet here. A Gandhi mandapam has also built at kanyakumari as a memorial to the father of our nation.

The land of tembles and monuments: a a thousand kilometer long coast line golden beaches with swaging palms emerald forests and enchanting Tamil nadir .Tamil nadir is one of the four southern states of India in fact the southernmost state. Kanyakumari. The southern most top of main land India is here Tamilnadu is located on the south- eastetn part of Indian peninsula. It is bounded on the west by kerala; on the north Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. To the east, tamilnadu has a long coastline along the bay of Bengal. In the south east the a palk strait and gulf of mannar separate it from srilanka. Tamilnadu has a coastal plain on the east. The eastern ghats line parallel to the coast and have ranges called the javadi. The shevaroy and the pachamazhai. The western ghats lie along the west part of tamilnadu. Palani hills, aanamazhai hills and cardamom hills lie in the western ghats. The western and eastern ghats meet at the nilgiris. Anaimudi on aanamazhai hills is the highest peak in peninsular Indian. The highest peak in the nilgiris is doddabetta. From this peak you can see tamilnadu, kerala and Karnataka states.

The hill station of tamilnadu and udhagamadalam , kodaikanal, yercadu, coonoor , kothagiri, people from the plain go there in summer to escape the heat. The rivers have waterfalls when they come down the ghats. The sivasamudram and hogenakkal falls on the kaveri are famous water falls.

THE FINE ARTS OF ANCIENT INDIA

We had rear about the ellora caves and planned to visit them. The first part of our journey was by train to Aurangabad. after breakfast a guide came and conducted us all round the caves It is hard to believe that men have carved them out of the solid rock. They have formed great rooms and lofty passages on the store wall all kinds of fancial figures have been carved. God’s and men and animals. In every cave there is atleast one image of the sitting Buddha. The most wonderful of all is the cave called kailasa.
There many skilled workmen must have labored patiently .Kailasa is a monument of beauty
.It is a record the history of the times for the story of carved on the wales.This caves were carved out at a time about two centuries before Christ and at that time no western country could produce such noble art, such fine workmanship.

TRAVEL PLEASURE

Travel is a pleasure whether it is by bus,Train or plane .But a journey gives maximum pleasure. We can enjoy nature through the windows. We can see the hills and valleys, rivers and bridges,singing birds and dancing flowers.We can exchange our food and through with our friends. In the process we can get many new friends. Variety is this spice of life.
Travel enables us to meet a variety of people and know about their customs and manners,food and dress, music and dance. This is a highly enjoyable experience.

Travel to hill stations is a class by itself. When the bus or train crawls along the ghat road we can enjoy the aerial view of the plain.In the hill stations we can see old men turning young and riding boats or horses!
Travel Makes us recall the heroes of history ,their loves and wars.This travel is a source of pleasure.

PINJORE GARDEN

The man needs such a program in order to become fresh after a long time of works.A picnic party or an excursion is an out going program.

I had the good chance of going for an excursion and a picnic party to panjore.Our CEO had organized this program for all the staffs. We went by bus from our office to panjore .

This gardens are situated at some distance from pinjore It is small town just near kalka. there are ancient gardens called mughal gardens at some difference from pinjore.

It was very glad at seeing the beauty of pinjore garden.These garden are built on the model of shalimar garden.Each part is a complete garden in itself.these gardens contains beautiful flowers of all kinds.
we enjoyed the programe very much.

SMALL- SMART- SIMLA

I am very fond of visiting a hill station in summer. I was invited by my friend Rabion to visit Simla last summer vacation. Simla is a very good hill station. I went to Simla by train.

The train from Kolkatta to Simla is a small one. It passes through beautiful scenes of nature. My friend had come to Simla railway station to receive me.

Simla is a cool and fine place. My friend knows all the places at Simla. We went to one picnic place everyday. I stayed there for twenty days. So i saw twenty picnic places over there. They are all beautiful.

There are many green gardens and valleys in Simla. There are tall green trees everywhere. There is no mosquitoes in Simla. People from far off places come to Simla. They enjoy the beautify of nature at this hill station.

Snow falls in Simla only during winter season. So there was no snow fall during the days of my summer vacation. But it has rained twice during those days. We could see clouds moving over the roofs of the houses.

There is a beautiful 'Mandir' at Simla.It is called 'Jakhu Mandir'. It is situated at a very high place. There are always many monkeys near this Mandir.
I did not want to come back from Simla,But i came back as my summer vacation was going to end. i liked my visit to Simla very much.
